Fuel-free generators will make electricity supply cheaper and more reliable

The European blackout that has paralysed Spain and several other EU countries has reopened serious debates about the future of the energy industry architecture as a whole.

On 16 April 2025, the Spanish power grid switched entirely to renewable energy sources for the first time. By 22 April 2025, the power grid had reached record capacity, covering 78.6% of demand and 61.5% of the grid as a whole, thanks to wind, solar and hydroelectric power alone. Very sunny weather set in in northwestern Europe, which led to electricity prices in the region falling to hundreds of euros below zero on 27 April 2025 and in the morning of 28 April 2025. In Spain, the share of solar and wind sources in total generation reached 100%, and the country was powered exclusively by renewable energy sources and green sources for several days. According to Epex Spot SE, spot prices for electricity in Belgium fell to minus 266 euros/MWh, in the Netherlands - minus 189.90 euros/MWh, in Germany - to minus 129.83 euros/MWh. Negative spot prices, seemingly for the obvious benefit of consumers, indicate extreme operation of the power system, excess generation and very serious problems for the stable operation of the power system.

A study of the dynamics of emergency shutdowns in Spain showed that the process of reducing power in the network occurred rapidly, taking only five seconds. As a result of this process, all remaining power plants were forced to disconnect from the network, including nuclear, gas and hydroelectric power plants. As a result, the generation of electricity in Spain, which had previously entered the network, dropped to zero. According to the data, out of 25 GW of capacity, only 10 GW remained. However, the operator reported that at a certain point the capacity dropped to zero. This led to large-scale disruptions in the operation of transport, the trade system, and schools, universities, banks, and enterprises began to close.

Experts believe that as Europe accelerates its transition to alternative energy sources, the reliability of the energy system will not increase, but the likelihood of spontaneous power outages will grow. The optimal share of solar and wind energy in the overall energy balance should not exceed 30%. Otherwise, as happened in Spain, the operation of the power supply system risks becoming unstable up to a complete blackout. If the share exceeds 30%, it is necessary to build energy storage systems, which immediately makes solar energy and wind generation uncompetitive. Otherwise, even the presence of compensatory gas capacities in hot reserve will not have time to compensate for the collapse of capacity in the system.

A power outage occurred in Spain, but this is not the first time in history that solar and wind energy have encountered problems. It is worth recalling the energy crisis that occurred in February 2021 in the state of Texas. Three severe winter storms that hit the United States on February 10-11, 13-17, and 15-20 left more than 4.5 million homes and businesses without power. Some were without power for several days. As a result of this incident, at least 151 people died.

Despite accidents related to solar energy and wind energy, the rejection of fossil fuels in energy and transport remains a strategic goal of humanity. The question arises about the creation of new technologies for the production of electricity without fuel. It may be worth considering the transition to direct current electricity supply in regions located close to fuel-free generation facilities.

The best solution is to create and distribute autonomous compact generators that operate without fuel and are not dependent on the weather. However, this may lead to disagreements between the interests of monopolies of resource supplying companies and consumers seeking independence in power supply. For example, according to estimates by Holger Thorsten Schubart, President of the Neutrino Energy Group, the payback period for purchasing a Neutrino Power Cube graphene fuel-free generator with a capacity of 5-6 kW will be 3-5 years. After that, the owner of the generator will receive electricity for free for many years, i.e. the investment in purchasing the generator will bring income to the buyer. And the production of these generators will begin in the near future.

Neutrino Power Cube qualitatively surpasses traditional energy sources, such as solar and wind power plants, in many respects:

  • Does not require security and operating costs.

  • Compact dimensions: 80x50x100 cm.

  • 20-year warranty.

  • Universal connectors for alternating (380/220/48/24 V) and direct (48/24 V) current.

  • Continuous generation of electricity 24/7/365 in basic mode.

  • Absolute silence and no moving parts.

  • Autonomous operation without fuel and connection to external networks.

  • Installation near the consumer eliminates losses in the power grid.

The appearance of fuel-free generators on the market is an important step for the state. This will help meet the growing demand for electricity, avoid the construction of power lines to remote settlements and expensive gasification. Residents of rural areas will be able to switch to electric heating of houses.

Graphene fuel-free generation is a new stage of the technological revolution that will ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity. It will undoubtedly find wide application in electric vehicles, water and air transport and other sectors of the economy and will provide a new stimulus for a conscious energy transition, creating a real technological basis for an environmentally friendly future for the planet.
